BRONZ (Max Bacon) – Taken By Storm [reissue +1]

We have been covering bands / album with stupendous British vocalist Max Bacon, and we can’t miss “Taken By Storm“, the only album by BRONZ. After two stong LP with Nightwing, Bacon joined BRONZ, a band formed in the early ’80s but despite the NWOBHM era exploding around them, the band opted to describe their own music hard rock with a touch of Pomp / AOR. “Everything depends on how you use the keyboards”, pointed out founder Paul Webb (bass) in 1983.
“Taken By Storm” is one of my favorite albums from 1984, mixing like few catchiness, elegant AOR and Brit hard rock pulse into a set of wonderful rockin’ songs.
This is one of these albums with no fillers in sight: all songs are terrific.
A MUST have

MAX BACON (feat GTR members) – The Higher You Climb [second press CD]

With the recent GTR posts many asked for more material from vocalist MAX BACON. “The Higher You Climb” is his first solo album released in 1995, but in fact all these songs were recorded in the ’80s.
Taped at different sessions, what we have here are songs composed by Bacon for a solo album and featuring Scott Gorham (Thin Lizzy, 21 Guns), Michael Sturgis (also 21 Guns) among other session players.
But other tracks are songs originally planned for GTR’s second album, and where most members agreed to record their parts (Steve Howe, Phil Spalding, even Robert Berry – GTR member before the band broke up). These are not the ‘Nerotrend’ demos, but newly recorded songs.
Bacon was close to be part of Asia too, so Geoff Downes is playing on several tracks here.
The overall sound is more AOR than Bacon’s previous bands, and as bonus tracks there’s two prev. unreleased GTR live recordings.
The original press of “The Higher You Climb” ended with a not so good mastering, this is the corrected second batch mostly shipped to the Japanese market.

GTR – Nerotrend [2nd Unreleased album / first generation tape] *EXCLUSIVE*

Few days ago we featured the reissue of a Nightwing album featuring talented British lead vocalist Max Bacon. Bacon was later part of super-group GTR founded by Steve Hackett & Steve Howe, and their only official album.
However, there was a second album in the making, “Nerotrend“, that never materialized. Bacon sung some of the songs, the others were performed by the exquisite Robert Berry (Alliance UK, Hush). It is very interesting to listen to the different styles of Bacon and Berry on a same song (Young Hearts) and what would have been GTR second album. This really is a must for any GTR collector, and all the musicians involved.
There was a bootleg of this unreleased material, but this is taken from a first generation tape owned by a recording studio employee, with much better sound quality. (thanks to K.V. for this exclusive)

GTR – GTR [2-CD Deluxe Expanded Remastered Edition]

Esoteric Recordings / Cherry Red Records finally did it: the official release of a 2xCD Deluxe Expanded Remastered Edition of “GTR“, the self-titled 1986 album by Steve Hackett and Steve Howe’s band GTR.
Apart from the much needed remastering, there are also 3 bonus tracks taken from promotional 12-inch singles of ‘When the Heart Rules the Mind’ & ‘The Hunter’ (two of which appear on CD for the first time), plus a bonus CD featuring a terrific GTR live show recorded in Los Angeles in July 1986.
