MADISON (Goran Edman) – Best In Show [Digitally Remastered +2] (2018)

BLACK ACES - Shot In The Dark [European CD version +3] (2016) full

Thanks to Pride & Joy Records whom seems to be jumped as well into the reissue / remastered wagon, here’s another Swedish outfit from the mid-Eighties which deserve to be listened by all Melodic Hard Rock aficionados; MADISON, featuring talented Goran Edman. “Best In Show” is their second and final album, only released in Japan and very hard to find for decades.
Now “Best In Show [Digitally Remastered +2]” has been tweaked with a vibrant, bright remastering job and featuring two bonus tracks, including the rare Japan maxi single ‘The Tale’, for the first time on CD.

After a quite rocking debut album, Madison’s second effort “Best In Show” is much more melodic and accessible according to times, 1986, featuring the earlier flexes of the Goran Edman vocal chords.
This melodic hard rock in the Scandinavian vein, but with a twist.

What separated Madison from so many others of the time is that you always had the sense that there were more possibilities at hand, a certain sense of potential grandeur and this is backed up by tracks such as ‘Out of the Bunker’ where there is a feeling of the epic creeping in, sort of a band very much of hard rockers proving that they knew all about the heartbeat of metal as well.

And further evidence that they also were ready for the commercial Europe style of The Final Countdown comes from the melodies and hooks of ‘World Wide Man’ and many other tracks here.
Additionally, the band’s sound is different thanks to the very ‘North American’ vocal styling by Edman, not so common into a Scandi band from the era.

“Best In Show” is a quite unknown – as it is Madison – Scandinavian melodic hard rock album from the ’80s, perhaps because only was release in Japan. It’s a very good collection of elaborated tunes in the genre, with an occasional straight hard rocker for good effect. And you can hear a young Goran Edman with all his potential.
